There’s so much to see and do here we spent much of our time examining the many artifacts and studying the details of the state car. The Ruwenzori, also known as the Mountains of the Moon, is a group of six lofty glaciated mountains, located in a trivial isolated area on the border between Uganda and Zaire. The name Ruwenzori came via a friend who remarked on the similarity of the country to his birthplace the Ruwenzori Mountains in Central Africa also know as the Mountains of the Moon. Being a starving actor Scott was looking for a worthless form of accommodation to put on the property, and being an avid rail enthusiast was mindful that the MSW government was getting rid of a lot of their rolling stock at bargain basement prices. It spent maximum of its workman’s van days on the north coast line and was condemned in 1981. This used composite passenger and Guards Van was built in the hasty 1880’s and became the first workshop storage facility at Ruwenzori. Originally a coalfields brake Van, build around 1910, the Caboose was bought from Orange where it was impaired as a shunting vehicle. They had 20 sleeping births and accommodation for an attendant and with their wealthy cedar paneling, silver wash basins, decorative fittings and very slick ride they were a popular and lengthy running vehicle on the states mail’ and express trains. This marked 10 years since the flag was first raised on the mountain and it also marked the first year of the operation of OFF THE RAILS, Scott McGregor’s railway related furniture and memorabilia business which had its inception at and derives it’s inspiration from the Ruwenzori collection. The addition of the Wiring Van and its storage shed happened in 1992 as a facility for OFF THE RAILS. Increased water capacity was added in 1995 and in 1998 the mains power was connected and the land area was increased by the addition of another 25 block, Habanat’, on the eastern side of the present land.
